Real-time Face Detection in Flash

A couple of days ago we came across the AS3 library Marilena which is based off the Object Detection from the C library OpenCV. It’s an object detection library which is able to process an image and search for a particular type of object with a set of features. In this case it’s looking for faces (was provided with the library). See more about how it works here.
The input images are driven from the webcam. We added confidence and motion monitoring for the purpose of “snapping” a photo.
Check out the video below or try out the demo.
Update 3.3.09: We’ve gotten a few requests for code examples using this technology and who are we to say no? Grab the source here.

Siiick… I didn’t know someone had already ported Open CV over to Flash. I was gonna goof around with this using Processing and Flash. (Processing to handle Face detection and Flash to be the front end)

Thanks a lot to make it open. You did a very great job buddy. I thank you and opencv from all the world to do a great research that will give eye to robots. What we see in the movies like transformers etc. one day all these dream come true if all of us will have same feeling to work for the world. Thank you a lot
First of all thank for providing the source code for this app.
I want to use this app with a resolution of 800×600 instead of 320×240 but I’m getting a very slow image. With 320×240 everything looks perfect.
Why can I do to solve this?
Thanks.

This is great work!
I am now working on a dance performance project related to real/virtual life and I would like to use your programme with some minor changes which i would be grateful if you could help me . Is it possible to save the pictures in a folder as a sequence of .jpg or .bmp?
If you are interested we are open for collaboration.
thanx
Giorgos
I look forward to hear from you.
